Title: | SUSTAINABILITY ANALYSIS OF CUTTING KNIVES FOR COLD STAMPING DEVICES |
Authors: | KOVACS, Mihaly |
Issue Date: | 23-Nov-2010 |
Abstract: | Most components of cold forming dies are subject to continuous wear and dynamic compression. In the case of the cutting dies, the components that most subject to wear are the cutting tools. Since this is a simple process from a physical point of view, the cutting process is relatively simple to model in a virtual environment. In the early design stages it is essential a durability analysis of the cutting tools to optimize their design for efficient operation. |
Description: | The paper presents a relatively simple method for determining the fatigue life of the cutting tools. CAD model of a cutting tool is analyzed with finite element method using the commercial package of ANSYS Workbench 12.0, to determine the maximum deformation and maximum stress occurring during an applied load of a force F. The results are then used to determine the durability of the cutting tool. The analysis gives the end number of cycles and the amount of material that needs to be removed while resharpening the cutting tool. |
